Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has disclosed of plans by the state government to provide insurance cover for all police officers serving in the state.

Governor Uzodimma made the disclosure on Tuesday, June 15 when he paid a condolence visit to the state Police Command headquarters in Owerri, the state capital.

He expressed sadness over the murder of police officers on duty by unknown gunmen in the state.

He said, ”Government will not let you do this work alone, we will support and supply all logistics and requirements needed because we want our people to sleep with their two eyes closed.

“We will bring up an insurance policy for all police officers in the state which will benefit their relations, this is to boost their morale in service delivery.”

The governor emphasized that the police is the last hope of the common man, adding, ”if the police is challenged the entire nation will be challenged.”

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his support during the weeks of insecurity crisis in Imo State.

Earlier, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro poured encomiums on Gov. Uzodimma for demonstrating that he values the service delivery of police officers in the state within the few weeks of security challenges.

Yaro stressed that the governor’s condolence visit is the first of its kind since the establishment of the police command 40 years ago.

The CP called on Imolites to go about their businesses as normalcy has been restored in the state.

 

He urged them to always cooperate with men of the force on duty because they are out to protect lives and property in the state.

Highpoint of the occasion was the donation of security vans to the command.

The state government had earlier paid N5million each to families of policemen killed on duty in the state.
