David Briggs, a former Commissioner under Peter Odili's administration in Rivers State, has criticized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), claiming Wike cannot function effectively in a peaceful environment, as reported by DAILY POST.
Briggs, who is now Chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, dismissed Wike’s statement that he revived Odili’s political career.
Instead, Briggs credited Odili for Wike’s rise in politics, saying Odili played a key role in Wike’s second term as Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Speaking to reporters, Briggs accused Wike of creating conflicts to stay relevant and noted that peace returned to Rivers State after a court restored federal allocations to the state.
Briggs also alleged that Odili and former First Lady Patience Jonathan supported Wike's political ambitions, including his governorship bid.
He cited a viral video where Jonathan introduced Wike to Odili for political endorsement.
Briggs called Wike’s remarks about Odili disrespectful to both Odili and the people of Rivers State.
He further accused Wike of stirring unrest in Local Government Areas to maintain control.
Briggs expressed disappointment in President Bola Tinubu for not addressing Wike’s actions.
Briggs warned Wike and asked him to apologize to Rivers people for his alleged actions or face exposure of more damaging details and vowed that Rivers residents would not let Wike continue to benefit from controversies.
“Wike as a person cannot and will not survive where there is peace, and that is the problem we have in Rivers State today."
“If you note since after the court judgement concerning the release of federal allocation to the state government, the state had been quiet. Rivers State was fast enjoying peace and Wike had just created the problems so that he will be the beneficiary,” he said.
