On the eve of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a direct appeal to former U.S. President Donald Trump, asking him to remain firmly aligned with Ukraine.

Speaking during an interview in Kyiv, Zelensky stressed that the United States is too powerful and influential to distance itself from the war. He expressed hope that Trump would voice support for Ukraine in his upcoming national address as Ukrainian forces continue battling Russia.

Zelensky described Russian President Vladimir Putin as the driving force behind the war, saying the conflict centers on one man’s ambitions. According to him, Russia’s political system revolves entirely around Putin, whom he characterized as embodying the war itself

He argued that if the United States genuinely wants to halt Putin’s aggression, it has the strength to do so. When asked whether Trump has applied sufficient pressure on the Russian leader, Zelensky responded that he does not believe enough has been done.

While reiterating his desire to see the war end quickly, Zelensky made clear that Ukraine cannot accept Moscow’s demands. Granting Russia everything it seeks, he warned, would amount to surrendering the nation’s sovereignty and forcing Ukrainians to either flee or live under Russian control.
